Thermal Reading

Scorpius is a character who is not above torture and murder and all that good stuff, but when it comes to that I will play it by ear and talk with you the same way I would with any of my other characters, so this permissions post is not about that. (Additionally, Scorpius will not be doing much of that in Luceti in all likelihood).

This is about one of his other abilities, which he uses as a "lie detector" of sorts: Scorpius is able to see peoples internal heat and note the changes in it. He is able to distinguish species and/or unique heritages based on people's different baselines, and determine changes in mood, nerves, or other things based on fluctuations. Because it's basically thermal imaging it could do other neat things too, do comment here if your character would have some not-human body heat going on or if there's anything else you want to tell me in that ballpark.

Not concerning this account, but... ALSO SPOILERS

My other character, Yugo ([personal profile] coolportaljumper), if Scorpius happens to run into him, might have a pretty decent ping on oddness. You see, he looks mostly human, but he has this really awesome hat. Yes, the hat flaps emote with him.

The reason? Obviously, he's hiding something underneath it. Yes, they are appendages. Yes, they move. Yes, they glow

I don't have canon clarification yet, as the raw hasn't been translated yet, but we are assuming that they are partially made of the chi-like energy of his world. Additionally, he can teleport via the use of portals that he makes with his hands using that same energy--his palms also glow when he's doing this. I don't quite know how that would ping on Scorpius' thermal imaging.

Otherwise, if you don't know this already, Lupin here is a notorious liar. Have fun~

Robert Hastings

Robert is a boring normal and he should look painfully, utterly normal on any thermal imaging. He'll probably be able to tell Robert is anxious a lot of the time, though... :|a

Kazooie

... Well, it's not hard to determine Kazooie isn't ordinary. However, to him, she will also not appear to give off "proper" body heat. She'll give off heat, sure, but it won't look as if it belongs to any logical biology - with the exception of her Filial wings, which behave like proper organics wings.

Additionally, she can spew Fire Eggs and two kinds of grenades, so I'm not sure how that will look if she's prepping to attack with those.

Being he's a reptile, Leo's an ectotherm, which pretty much means his body temperature is that of the air around him. He doesn't produce body heat.

However, his filial wings are endothermic and do give off heat just like any bird's wings. However, the heat stops at where the wings meet his shell(which is probably an odd sight, lol)

A few fun things to note if Scorpius ever meets Leonhardt.

First, definitely not human. Also, unless he's actually fighting something or someone, there's very little fluctuation in his mood.

Then the second, he often has shadows that stand in for himself. They are very complex illusions basically in that they feel real, attacks from them hurt, they don't vanish in a hit, and pretty much are hard to tell it's not him from simple observation unless he's seen with them. However, since they are illusions and not alive, they wouldn't have a normal amount of body heat. They likely have some, but definitely lower than a normal human and lower than Leonhardt's. If you want more info on this ability, I did note all the important stuff on his abilities post. Just scroll down to the long section on the Body-Split Craft.

And if I forget to note whether it's the real person or a shadow, poke me. I forget that a lot because most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Okita Souji: Human and a liar about all the good things. He's currently dying and trying to hide it, but his thermal signatures will definitely show something massively off with his lungs.

Beat: Human, but currently dead. He's being kept alive by the sheer power of his "will" and "imagination" according to the game. Otherwise, he's fairly normal, but at times he fades in and out.

Japan: Non-human and a Nation, he's the personification of everything that the Japanese nation, people, culture and government embody. His core would be an almost brilliant white since the heat of millions of people reside in him.

Grell Sutcliffe: Non-human, a death god. Physically male, but mentally female, Grell would definitely register on the "tells all the lies" and the "certainly not human" scale. Death gods exist in a space between true gods and humans so while they don't need to do things like breathe and they're practically immortal, they do need to do things like eat and sleep. Also, she's crazy. In a fun way.

As is already obvious, Beast is definitely not human, and his thermal heat is probably some combination of the various creatures that are part of his body structure (wolf, lion, buffalo, bear, etc.). Depending on how much Scorpius's ability can detect previous conditions, he might be able to tell that Beast was once human a long long time ago and yet is different now for... supernatural reasons.

Law is a Devil Fruit user as you well know, and I don't know if that would be detectable by Scorpius. Surprise me, I guess. As for lying, well... Law's generally calm as hell, and his emotional ups and downs are more subtle most of the time. So generally any fluctuations are going to be more subtle as well. In short, Law's a more difficult (though not impossible) read due to that.

Helios is going to come up on his radar as super cold. So, yeah, he's probably going to look weird to Scorpius because human with no body?! But there might be slight peaks in his body temperature when he's fluster/embarrassed but nothing too significant or noticeable given that his condition is purely supernatural.

I should probably do this btw. Yuri will just read as a normal human. Even though she's dead, pretty much everything's the same. The only differences are that in her world, you can't die again (you'll just regenerate from any injuries after a given amount of time) and you can't get sick. In Luceti, that's limited to just minor injuries healing. Maybe there would be slightly different heat signatures in locations that are in the process of healing? Idk that part's up to you.

The working of Emil's biology are a mystery to all, since he can eat and sleep despite having no organs-- and, beyond that, can survive as only a head, and in some silly short stories of dubious continuity even constructs new bodies for himself out of twigs and sticks.

My best guess is that he's animated by magic, and that, if his body DOES differ from the ambient temperature around him, his warmest area would be his head, and his body parts would warm with use.

Should have done this a lot earlier!

Technically Nezumi is a normal human being. But he does have powers. He has almost a psychic instinct to danger, his singing has the power to relax people physically and mentally, and he can also communicate with the supernatural bee god of his people. He's the only one with those last powers since the rest of his people are dead.

I'm not sure if this would make a difference in his body heat (I'd assume not?) or if this is something Scorpius could pick up. But he does have those powers.

Half-elven, though I don't know if he'll be able to tell that she's at least half-human or if it just counts as a different species altogether.

As for lying, she usually tries to hide her moods, depending on circumstances.

There might be differences that can be noticed when she's been practicing magic? If you think there's anything else, you know how to get in touch with me.

I really have no idea how this may change Heisuke's body heat in comparison to that of a human's, but basically, Heisuke's kind of a, uh.. pseudo-demon thing with vampiric qualities? Basically, he has greater strength than a human would have and can stand up to more injuries as well, thanks to his healing abilities. He obviously can't withstand injuries on vital organs like the heart, but yeah.

He feels a lot weaker during the day and in the sunlight too aaaand he gets this "bloodlust" every now and then where he feels he needs to drink blood. During that, he's also a ton weaker as well. For now in Luceti, he's going to be trying to suppress that as much as he can though, even though there's blood available. |D;

...I'm tired so I apologize if this isn't coherent oops. There's some info on it here though.
